Hello and Happy New Year!

The past couple of weeks I have reflected on my amazing journey in 2016. It has been, transformational, educational, challenging, insightful, hopeful, inspiring and "yes,” occasionally, emotional and overwhelming (even Coaches experience these feelings).

Three years prior, I launched Discover Clear Vision as a part-time coaching practice and knowing that one day I will transition from my corporate career and have a full-time coaching practice helping women discover their inner beauty and power from within.

March 2016, for budgetary reasons, my management position of eight years came to an end.  I recall getting in my car for the drive back home, giggling and saying "Thank you," "Thank you," Thank you." Going From a six-figure salary to a few figure salary, I had no idea how I would manage, but, I knew I would! I knew a higher and powerful loving presence was closing doors and opening new doors much more rewarding than I could even grasp! But, if I did not have a strong personal foundation Spiritually and emotionally I would not be where I am today! My foundation then and now helps me to stay in awareness of when negative thoughts creep their way in; I consciously, refuse to listen to the inner saboteur's negative chatter (although challenging at times), I lean into God and assured, I will navigate through this without compromising who I am. I was also reminded of the inspiring words from various Spiritual Leaders, that we are all "Spiritual Beings, having human experiences." By living each moment in the present as our authentic selves willing to take risks (in spite of what the inner saboteur says) and not living in the past /future from ego, we can rise above adversities and experience joy, success and unconditional love for ourselves and the world.

Authentically Living & Taking Risks

By Wanda King

Seeing and Living More of Who You Really Are is your key to unleashing the radiant force that lives inside of you, and utilizing it to bring you greater success, recognition, financial success, happiness, and fulfillment.

What could be riskier than diving out of an airplane or climbing a glacier-covered peak or accelerating a race car into a curve at the Indy 500?

For one person it might be quitting a secure, well-paying job to go back to school. For another, it could be speaking up for themselves, or following a dream to be an artist, or beginning a new relationship with someone.

Though it may not appear so at first glance, psychological risks that summon us to put our personal values and beliefs on the line may ultimately feel more dangerous than those of physical derring-do. Yet these are the challenges that we are asked to face time and again if we are to continue to grow as individuals. Each time we take a risk that contributes to our personal growth or enhances our self-esteem or enriches our lives, we make the choice to stretch ourselves, knowing there are no guarantees.

Growth-producing risks generally fall into three categories.

Self-Improvement Risks

These are the risks you take when you want to get ahead, learn something new or make a distant dream a reality. You take on the venture with hopes of enriching your life. Maybe you want to change careers, or become an artist, or learn to speak French, or live a healthier life. On one side of the risk is the person you are and, on the other, the person you want to become.

Commitment Risks

All commitment risks have emotional stakes whether you pledge yourself to a person or a relationship or to a cause, a career, or a value. According to Joseph Ilardo, author of Risk-Taking for Personal Growth, if you avoid making emotional commitments, you all but guarantee that your emotional growth will be stunted.

Self-Disclosure Risks

Communication risks fall into the category of self-disclosure. Anytime you tell someone how you really feel you’re taking the chance of self-disclosure. When you open yourself up to others and reveal who you really are, how you feel and what you want and need, you make yourself vulnerable. It is impossible to be assertive without doing so.

All risks carry with them the possibility of failure. Often significant sacrifices must be made before any real benefits are realized. Routines may have to change; the familiar may have to be released. You may be rejected or humiliated. In the case of commitment to a value, personal safety may be in danger. Consider those who stand up for what they believe in or put their own health and well-being on the line in the name of a cause. Challenging yourself is often the key to personal growth and development.

Are you a risk-taker? Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Does every decision involve endless debates with yourself?
  • Do you accept less than what you should because you’re afraid to speak up?
  • Do you have difficulty making emotional commitments to others?
  • Do you make up excuses that stop you from taking advantage of opportunities for self-improvement?
  • Does fear of disapproval keep you from doing what you’d really like to do?

A “yes” answer to these questions indicates a reluctance to take risks, which may mean you tend to play it safe and reject change.

Consider this: to fulfill your potential, to discover your real self and live an authentic life, you must take risks. And while security may appear to be the absence of change, the only genuine security lies in taking risks.

When you are more authentic, you are also more vulnerable; there’s no denying this fact.  Still, isn’t risking a little vulnerability worth the potential gain of becoming:

  • More confident in yourself?
  • More willing to pursue your passions?
  • More free of other people’s opinions?
  • More connected with yourself and others?
  • More in a state of peace of mind?
  • More accepting and appreciative of your true self?”

Do you ever feel like you’re living someone else’s life?  It’s almost like if you were to say what’s really on your mind, or do what you really want to do that everything would fall apart?

These are primary indicators of an all-too-common malady called “living inauthentically,” and I can promise you, if left untreated, it only gets worse. If you’re not living your life connected to your core self, you’re hurting yourself…and everyone around you. Over time, the strain of living two lives will wear on you, causing unhappiness, stress, and even illness.

Of course, I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know. So while I’m at it, I’ll tell you something else you probably already know.  Once you start embracing what makes you different and appreciating your unique gifts and talents, not only will your life get a lot easier, happier and more fulfilling, you’ll also probably become a lot more successful.

So if you’re spending your time and energy trying to be someone or something else, you’re only contributing to disharmony and misery. However, once you start looking for what you and only you can offer, you’ll plug into the perfect natural order of life, and all of life will rejoice.

This is exactly why I’m inviting you to participate in my newest Webinar "Authentically You!" - Seeing and Living More of Who You Really Are.

From this inspirational, educational coaching program, you’ll discover…
